First group article from SuperGate project in APL Materials!

Together with other partners from the SuperGate consortium, we study the reasons why devices made by subtractive patterning other than additive patterning do not show gate-controlled superconductivity.

In this article, we show that superconducting devices made of Nb and NbTiN following different fabrication recipes do not show a modulation of their superconducting current under an applied gate voltage, when these devices are made by etching other than by lift-off. Performing tranmission electron miscropy, we conclude that larger microstrain and interface roughness can be some of the structural parameters responsible for the presence of gate-controlled superconductivity in lift-off devices.
